It was Wednesday. People usually have days of the week they favour or dislike. Vanessa saw every day as an opportunity to make money, so she was indifferent to what day it was when she had meetings planned but she dreaded the Wednesdays with an empty diary. An empty diary meant therapy with Lynda.
Lynda knew what Vanessa really did for a living, so to accommodate her lifestyle, they made an agreement that Lynda would leave her Wednesday afternoons open for Vanessa.
On the Wednesdays Vanessa had no plans, she would meet with Lynda for a session. However, on the weeks Vanessa and Lynda could not meet, Vanessa would have to write a letter to herself about something new she had learnt about herself during that week.
It was Lynda’s way of showing Vanessa that she was growing.
Vanessa enjoyed spending time with Lynda, the sessions were normally a game of run around made up of her hiding behind her walls and Lynda trying to manoeuvre her way in. Last week was the first time she really opened up. Vanessa let the cat out of the bag, she told Lynda about her mother, her stepfather, Tiago and their baby. She didn’t know what to expect but she wasn’t sure if she was ready to explore that part of her life again.
Keeping a permanent slot in her calendar meant that Vanessa had the liberty to cancel anytime during the day, even at the last minute. So she spent most of the day constantly peaking at her phone hoping for any excuse to get out of seeing Lynda. She watched television, went to the mall, paid Tamia a visit while she was at work; she did whatever she could to distract herself from thinking about the session or remembering her past.
Left without a valid reason, she found herself knocking on Lynda’s door. Initially she was unfazed but as she heard Lynda’s footsteps approaching, Vanessa’s heart began to race but before she could turn and run, she felt the warmth of Lynda’s embrace.
